LINKSPLIT HELP

Custom domains & branded links

Connect your own subdomain and choose where its root address redirects.

Connect a branded domain

You need a plan with custom-domain slots and access to your domain’s DNS settings. A dedicated subdomain such as links.example.com is a straightforward choice.

  1. In your DNS provider, create a CNAME record for the subdomain. For links.example.com, the host/name is usually links.
  2. Set the record’s target/value to cname.linksplit.io. Enter a hostname, without https:// or a path.
  3. Open Settings → Custom domains, enter links.example.com and select Add domain. You can also add domains from the Dashboard’s Custom Domains tab.
  4. Allow DNS changes to propagate; the app’s setup guidance allows up to 48 hours. Then check that the root subdomain redirects to LinkSplit or your configured base redirect.
  5. Create or edit a link and select your domain in the Domain field.

Do not replace DNS records used by your main website or email. Use a dedicated subdomain and remove conflicting records for that same subdomain if your DNS provider requires it. Adding a hostname in LinkSplit does not update your DNS records for you.

Domain requirements

Enter a domain name without a page path, query, port or credentials. It must be a domain you control; IP addresses, local hostnames, wildcard names and LinkSplit service domains are not supported. For an internationalized domain, use its ASCII/Punycode hostname.

A domain already reserved or associated ambiguously with an account cannot be added. Contact support if you own the domain and cannot connect it.

Set a base URL redirect

In Settings → Custom domains, set Base URL redirect to an external HTTP or HTTPS URL and select Save redirect. This account setting controls where your custom domains send visitors who open the root address without a link name, such as https://links.example.com/.

The default is LinkSplit’s home page. This setting does not change the destination of named short links, and it is not a catch-all destination for unknown link names.

Remove a domain

Remove it from Settings or the Custom Domains tab. Dashboard removal asks you to type DELETE. Removing a domain can stop links published on that hostname from resolving; update campaigns and QR codes before removing it. Existing links do not automatically move to another domain.

If the provider reports an unavailable service or an operation in progress, retry as directed. For DNS and connection problems, see domain troubleshooting.
