Create a short link
Select Create new → Short link in the Dashboard. Enter one destination, choose a domain and optionally enter a URL name. Save the link and use Copy to share its complete short URL.
Destinations must be external HTTP or HTTPS URLs. If you leave out the protocol, it defaults to https://. Explicit HTTP and HTTPS URLs are preserved. URLs with embedded usernames or passwords, IP-address destinations and links back into LinkSplit’s service domains are not accepted. Safety checks may reject a destination or temporarily prevent saving; see Troubleshooting.
Choose a URL name and domain
A custom URL name must contain 4–40 characters. Letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and the characters !, @ and # are supported. Simple names such as spring-offer are easiest to share. When special characters are used, copy the generated URL so they are encoded correctly.
Some names are reserved for application pages. A name may also be unavailable because it is already used or was deleted; selecting a different domain does not give you a separate namespace for the same name. Leave the name blank to generate one automatically.
New links use split.to or a custom domain connected to your account. Retired service domains can be retained on existing links, but cannot be selected for new links.
Link creation limits
Basic includes 500 new links per month, Pro 2,500 and Business 5,000. These plans include unlimited stored links. Monthly creation usage resets at the start of each UTC calendar month, with no rollover of unused allowance. Grandfathered paid plans retain unlimited stored links without a monthly creation allowance. Free accounts and trials retain their stored-link allowances; the 7-day trial includes 20 links and 10,000 tracked clicks.
Each account can create up to 50 links per minute, 200 per hour and 500 per 24 hours, measured over rolling windows. Every link in a batch counts individually; a rotator with multiple destinations counts as one link. These limits are shared across sessions and apply to all plans.
If you reach your monthly new-link allowance, upgrade or wait for the next month. Existing links keep working and editing remains available; editing does not consume creation allowance, and deletion does not restore it. Successfully created links held for review count toward usage; failed creations do not. If you reach a rolling creation limit, wait for the retry time in the message or use a smaller batch. Upgrading does not reset the rolling limits.
Edit a published link
- Find the link in your Dashboard and select Edit.
- Change its destination, weights, pixels or expiration settings.
- Select Save link.
Keeping the same domain and URL name lets you update destinations without changing the URL you have shared or the QR code that points to it. Changing the domain or URL name changes the published address: update your campaign links and QR codes accordingly. Renaming does not create an automatic redirect from the old name.
Search and copy links
Use Search links in the Dashboard and move between results with Previous and Next. Select Copy beneath a link to copy its full URL. Selecting the short URL opens it and may add a tracked click; Analytics opens its report instead.
Preview a destination
Append /preview to a short URL, for example https://split.to/summer-sale/preview. A preview displays the configured destinations without following the redirect or recording a routing click. Rotators can have more than one destination. Always review unfamiliar destinations before opening them.
Delete a link or reset statistics
Open the link’s more-actions menu and choose Delete to stop the published URL. Its name stays reserved. Deleting a link does not restore monthly new-link or tracked-click allowances. On free and trial plans, deletion frees a stored-link slot.
Reset stats clears the link’s statistics and visit-expiration counter. This cannot be undone and does not restore monthly quota. See Resetting statistics before using it.
